digital video pc

Post by daddio12 »

I would like some suggestions on hardware to build a PC for digital video processing. I have built PC's
with P4s, but not with athlon. Which would be the best bang for the buck? As to video cards, should I go with PCIexpress or agp? 64 bit processing? Linux or windows??

All advice is welcome.
Thanks, Daddio

are you saying CGI or digital TV? big difference. nether of those need anything over a pci/2d card.
IF your doing CAD you want quadro, firegl lines of highend cards and not your normal off the shelf nVidia(unless they can be softmodded to run CAD instructions).

I would wait to hear what software your going to run before telling you what the best bang is due to what CPU instrutions that program can take advantage of. SSE I/II,HyperThreads, 3DNow!/64-bit.

Your in a situation were one unknown difines the other.
So I would pick the best program for the field of video your doing and then depending on if it uses HT,Dual Core,64-bit,etc.

expect large amout of memory for any of those of around 1-2gigs
