Google Talk is OUT! (new messenger)

Post by Augix »

They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world. Google Talk offers you:

Choice: Get in touch how and when you want to–over email, IM or a call

Quality: Talk through your computer but hear your friends as if they were in the same room

Convenience: Your Gmail contacts are pre-loaded into Google Talk so inviting or talking to your friends is just a click away

Google Talk is in beta and requires a Gmail username and password.

Think I'll wait to see if Trillian is going to include it in their offerings.

From what I've read its jabber based. Basically any jabber client works with it. Trillian Pro does do jabber but the free trillian does not.

Damn gmail is still in beta. Well I knew I should have accepted some of the invites I was offered back when it was new.

here is the best part:
Google Talk currently does not encrypt chats or calls. But we are working hard to make many improvements to Google Talk while it is in beta, and we plan to fully support encryption of chats and calls before our official release.
built-in encryption is a great bonus over other current IM's. :)

Thanks but they just opened up the phone text message thing. I got an invite that way.

Now I'm one with no one to talk to. But I'm finally using jabber for something. If anyone wants to msg me my user is rndmtask for gmail as well.

I haven't read all about this, but I assume one would need a mic to use some of the features if you are talking? Or I suppose one could just <i>"talk to the hand"</i>, eh. :d

Sounds like the old netmeeting but voice only. That'd keep most of the preverts out anyway.

vewwwy intewesting.... :)
