Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" cracked in 24h: window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all'
AV sez, "This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verifiy their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called 'Genuine Advantage.' It was cracked within 24 hours."

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

So if you had a bootlegged version you would have had to tell them where you got it from to be able to install the updates, or would it lock up your system?

I think maybe MS is on to the hack already. I tried it and after I pasted the line into the address bar and hit enter it gave me a 505 page error.

And supposedly MS will still allow you to update if you use Automatic Updates. They said a few months back they would do that in order to prevent pirated systems from being easily compromised by exploits.

Try the following:

Set the Background Intelligent Transfer Service to Automatic

To do this, Click Start->Run and type Services.msc then click OK.
Scroll to the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service, and right-click on it.
Select Properties.
In the Startup Type list, select Automatic.
Verify the service Status is Started.
Click OK.
Set Event Log Service to Automatic and verify that the Status is Started

Use the same steps as the Background Transfer Service to do this

Re-register the Windows Update DLLs with the commands below:

Click Start->Run type cmd, and then click OK.

Type the following commands and press ENTER after each command.

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
Close the command prompt, and Attempt to run Windows Update.

Just wanted to add that the info posted by wvjohn still does work. However, he has a slight error. It should be:

<pre>javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')</pre>

The space makes it not work correctly. I just used this trick and it still works!

This works as well.
1. Go to either Windows Updates or Microsoft Updates.
2. Install KB892130 (Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool)
3. If the validation check doesn't pass, do the following.
4. In IE, Tools > Manage Add-ons...
5. Select Show: Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer
6. Select Name: Windows Genuine Advantage
7. Select Settings: Disable
8. Click OK.
9. Close IE.
10. Go back to Windows Update or Microsoft Update and it should work.
