WTB: Socket A Athlon XP 2000+ or 2200+ CPU

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Any Athlon XP CPU around 2000+ with a 266 FSB clock.

Prefer Thoroughbred but will consider Palomino.

Don't need an HSF but if it's a retail CPU I'll take the matching retail HSF.

I got non-CC paypal.

I have one (a 2000), not sure which it is. I'll have to let you know later tomorrow since it's in a folding rig now.

Don't wait on me though. If one has a deal for what you want, of course take it. May not be till late friday before I can get to it. Anyway, just in case. :)

LMK. Not in any kind of panic. I'm just thinking of upgrading my MediaPC. It has an Athlon 1200 right now.

You can run CPU-Z on that system and it'll tell you the processor family and bus clock.

LMK what you'd want for it.

That should be a nice upgrade going up to a 2000+. I just did the same thing to my MediaPC upgrade the CPU to a 2100. However I’m still running 512mb and would love to upgrade it to a 1 gig.

I do a lot of DVD burning/converting AVI files to VCD,SVCD and DVD format. Also take files off my Tivo and burn to DVD. It’s nice having a dedicated pc to let loose and let it do its own thing while working on another PC. I know upgrading my CPU helped cut the time down converting. I have 4 computers and when every I upgrade my main rig I roll the CPU's to the next pc in line and so forth.
Just curious if bumping my memory would help also converting files?

Good Luck!

It's running on a cheapy mobo and very few things in the bios that can be adjusted, like clock speed. Bus speed only goes from 130-132. CPU-Z says it's a palamino and is running 12.5 x 199. I'll have to take it out later to b sure. sorry about that.

Again, if another comes along with what you want, take it. Not sure what these are even worth nowdays.

All Palominos are 266 MHz FSB according to this: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/TYPE-Athlon%20XP.html

Blade and LMandrake, PM me prices and I'll make the call.

Blade, you want an Athlon 1200 to swap out in that thing? Sounds like the perfect CPU for that mobo.

BUCKMASTER: Both my Media PCs are running 512Mb and I really don't see a need for 1Gb (unless you're using the computer for something else like gaming as well). I've checked, and neither computer has ever gone over a Peak Commit Charge memory usage of over 512Mb so 1Gb would see to be a waste for strictly Media PC usage.

I don't have an HDTV tuner although I do playback HDTV content from torrents.

The 1200 is okay - I have animations disabled in Media Center and it runs adequately but I can definately feel the difference in responsiveness from the other Media PC which has a Thoroughbred Athlon 2200+ on it.

The 1200 also won't play Windows Media High Def video files (they stutter).

Don't really want to waste anymore money on these boxes - I built them both on the cheap - but I think I'd be happier with a faster CPU on the 2nd box.

Thanks for the info on the memory now I can stop worring about it and save my money! :)
I totally understand and agree your biggest gain would be the CPU upgrade.
