WAYY OFF TOPIC, I know, but I suspect many of you are Junkyard Wars fans like me...

Oh heck, chew me out if you don't appreciate the off-topic post and I'll delete it, but we haven't had any off-topic fun around here in a while...

If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the Junkyard Wars show on Learning Channel where teams compete in building devices (cranes, cannons, boats, etc) from stuff in a junkyard.

I suspect that this show fills a PCAbuser and Overclocker's heart with joy and that many of you watch it. All we need is a computer version of the show - build a working computer capable of running Doom out of junked XTs... hehe.

So how many of you preffered the UK version of the show MUCH better than the US version as I do? I think Robert Llewelyn is WAY funnier than the US host. Guess they assumed the US audience wasn't capable of understanding British accents and slang. Never stopped me from enjoying the heck out of Monty Python....

I've only watched a couple of those.
The one I mainly remember was that the two teams had to build some sort of a cannon and hit a target at a set distance. Very interesting. hehe

I'm a bigger fan of the "Battle Bots". hehe, I like watching some of them get cornered and slammed by that big hammer trap.

Craziest one BY FAR was the glider episode. They had to build a glider and they took turns to see which one flew farther - best out of three tries.

They pulled the gliders with a glider winch at up to 50 miles an hour! One glider was a hang glider but the other was all metal with scap wings from a wrecked Cessna 172.

AND SOMEONE HAD TO FLY THESE THINGS!!!! Wearing NOTHING but a crash helmet. Not even safety seats or roll bars (although the latest shows are requiring a regulation NASCAR type seat now with 5 point harness in any vehicle that travels at speed).

The metal glider actually got like 15 feet off the ground. I kept expecting it to do a snap roll and pancake into the ground!

MAN, could you imaging filming a show like that in the States? Salavating lawyers would probably be lined up outside the studio door waiting for the contestants to come out.

I guess the lawyers haven't taken over the UK yet. I hear you can still smoke cigarettes over there without getting accosted too

Sigh... I remember having dangerous fun like that when I was younger - before the Age of Litigation...

I love that show, watch it all the time. I have to agree I like the British host better which is unually because I usually don't like British TV at all. Either way it is a great show and if you haven't seen it you should make a point of checking it out.

Damn, I missed it.. Sat down on the egde of the bed with a flashlight at about Seven Pm To pragram the VCR.. The Wife was sleeping and didnt want o wake her up..I Din't get it right! I love that show..Waaa!!!!!

ROFL This show rocks! I'm watching it as i type! Their building some sort fo rocket deal right now their cordless drill lathe idea kicks @$$. My fav one was when they had to build the drag cars. They come up with some of the craziest idea's i've ever seen.

The 'Art Attack' team is from my area, northern coastal California. It was very cool to see them. Since the broadcast is delayed, the whole team was at the (extremely packed) brewery to watch the last few episodes. They are great folk, and immensely talented artists (not to mention junk scavengers).

They take part in the 'Kinetic Sculpture' race every Memorial Day. For that you have to design and build a human powered vehicle that takes a couple of days to go on roads, beaches, on water, up a slimy mud hill, and more. Very outrageous. I'm glad to see them get international recognition.
