Which Hard Drive To Buy?
Ok Guys, I've got my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and my AMD 64 3200+ coming.. Now I'm having difficulties deciding what Hard Drive to get myself. Should I get the 36GB Raptor for $120, the 74GB Raptor for $190, or the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB w/16MB Cache for $110? MaximumPC says that the DiamondMax 10 drive with the 16MB of cache is "spitting distance" away from the Raptor in performance. And I really just don't think I can justify the price difference for 1 or 2 MBs or extra transfer per second or .3ms faster access times. But I would like some of your inputs. So please vote accordingly as to what you would do. I only have the money to buy 1 of either of the Raptors, but I might be able to swing two of the Maxtors, just not sure yet. Thanks for your thoughts and input guys and gals.

Im running 2 raptors in my rig, and Gregs right they are loud. But they are damn fast, however I know for a fact the diffs b/w the raptor and diammond max isnt great but you do see a diffrence.
If I had it to do over and had the diamond max option Id do that over the raptor.
If you have the money do a 36gb raptor for boot and the diamond max for the secondary storage.
that would kill!

I think you've answered your question right there, and I have to agree, I couldn't justify it either. The performance of the Maxtor is plenty good enough for what most of us do. Considering that for a few dollars more over the cost of the 74GB Raptor you can have 5 times the storage I would go for the Maxtors.

Ditto here I had both flavor of the raptor, although it was nice for my puter penis to say I had the fastest, practically the extra space at a slightly slower speed is a much better value.
