OMFG Not working HD full of DATA "UPDATED" FRIED HARD DRIVE INVERTED MOLEX

What can I say! I built a new computer like a few days ago...well when I tried to put one of the Hard drives I had in my old puter! Voila! the HD is not spinning or giving any sign of life at all! I can't belive it, this SUX well a lot of pics and psd files... and some soft all gone... wehn I try to plug the power connector I just see a very small green light at the botton of the HD a few secs and its gonne too! there is no noise or vibration so I know that its dead, I try differnt connectors and nothing... what is strange is that the HD was working a the last week I just put it away till I got my new computer running and SAD to say that but I don't know... tomorrow will be a better day : this is the second time in 5 years I lost one full hard drive . I will start doing my back ups in CDs which I dont trust but... Oh well being the second time I am not that desperate but SHITTTTTTTTTTT !

I don't want to ask... but any ideas ?

I won't pay for a data recovery...blablabla service its up to 1K and I dont think I will pay that for gettin some pics and files...

So I think that from now on I will start just printing out the very important documents, and get the pics done at Costco or something like that! SHIT man this sux... if I can give a recommendation " keep your life out of your computer " you never know! FU#%@#ING MAXTOR

I had 2 HD's die on me in the last month. Luckily they gave warning and I was able to backup the data, nothing important anyhow, but *whew*

Let me guess that this drive probably was running continuously before this. Probably the spindle motor is worn out. As long as it kept spinning it was fine, but now it doesn't have enough inertial to overcome the stickiness of the bearings to spin up.

If you can just coax it to spin up you can probably copy all your data from it.

One trick that MIGHT get it to spin up is to hold the drive securely in your hand, top of drive against your palm and twisting it make and forth vigorously. Centrifugal force may spin the platter enough to help the spindle motor get going.

You're going to need long enough wires and enough room to do this.

Freezer? I've heard that putting it in the freezer may allow it to work for enough time to get the data off.

yep but that is when the HD is spinning! this one is dead! not spinning !

Freezer is only for striction issues. Striction is when the drive has sat a LONG time and the head had become stuck to the platter.

That's not the case here - he was using the drive just the other day.

I'd only do the freezer as a last resort.

I will do a couple of thing... before freezing.. but if does not work I will try some weird stuff too ... nothing to loose at that point I guess!

from what it looks like, it is an issue with the circuit board and not the mechanics itself, you specified the light on the hard drive (some drives have little green lights on them) turns on and back off, sounds like the drive isn't getting power due to an issue with the circuit board, it won't spin up without that...

yes that is the problem... now I remember a little details

" when I unplugging the connector in my oder computer , I remember I had to plug it back once again... and i plugged the molex in upsidedown, I forgot about the accident since I just pulled that out and I sold the puter with the second HD I had on it... so talking with some ppl its is obvious the tha circuit board is fried! so...

Upside down power connector? Ya, fried HDD. Lucky you didn't fry your PSU and mobo too.

That REALLY sux.

I've had a couple die on me and lost all data. Couple more I was able to hook as a slave on a working system and extracted most of the data. You might try that. Hooking it as slave. Shake it some as FP suggested and hopefully that will let you get some things from it. Good luck.

usually you shouldn't even be able you plug it in wrong, since it won't fit upside down...

yes I know but if you push you can touch the connectors... so go figure...
