MSI K7T Pro2a, freezing, can't even get into the bios?

I just got one of these boards, got a new duron 650 from compuwiz. I just loaded it with a maxtor 20 gig hd, a nec cddrive, both masters of their own channel. Also a pci trident vid card, the other one is on its way, and 128 megs of infineon ram. Its all in a new antec case w/ 300 watt ps, booted it up the first time, got to the "hit del for settings" screen, got in and it freezes every time I get into the bios, any ideas at all cause I can't even get to setting the time on this thing?

Sounds to me like you may be shorting something out. Did you try the system on cardboard boxes instead of in the case??

mine started right up - what frost said and clear the bios with the jumper - unplug the power cord and the atx connector from the mobo then short the bios with the jumper - maybe there's some screwy value in there which is
discombobulating something - also make sure that your hs is on tight and the fan is running - these puppies will overheat and stutter in about the time it takes to get to the bios screen -

when you get it up and running post here and let us know how to get the onbaord sound going - after about an hour i just threw in another sound card - also it seems that the amr modem has to be enabled for an internal modem to work

a few start up issues, but otherwise a nice board for me - also i like the live bios update thingy

All I did was make sure it was enabled in the bios then in windows opend up device manager and found the thing that said pci multimedia device or whatever. Put the MSI cd in and then said update driver. Pointed to where it was on the cd and that was it. Worked fine. IF that doesn't work for some reason just put the MSI cd in and find the button that says install via 97 sound drivers or whatever they're called. Simple as that. (For me anyways)

frost - i did that several times - all i managed to get was crackle - gonna switch hds later this work and try a clean install - but then again i'm seriously mechanically challenged sometimes

Dan, try looking into this forum, lots of things about your mobo, both questions and answers. I have one of those mobos also, but haven't tried it yet. Let us know what you come up with.

Heatsink would be the first thing I would check.

Then I would unplug everything that isn't necessary to get to the BIOS screen. Modem, Sound Card, mouse, all hard drives, CDroms, and anything else. Just use the keyboard and video card with one stick RAM.

I was replacing an EPOX mb with an MSI in my home system, but it wouldn't overclock as well as the epox does. I'm still using the EPOX.

Thanks for all the replies folks, I tried everything and even swapped the ps, then I for kicks tried swapping the vid card, put in my agp radeon and it works fine, talk about frustrating. Now I just have to install the os and I'll be joining the 1 gig club, whee.
