What CPU to get?

Post by dadx2mj »

OK I got the new mobo an ASUS A7N8X-E and when I put it all back together I did not notice but one of the water cooling lines got twisted and pinched off the water flow. I was in middle of loading the new drivers when I heard like a popping sound and everything shut down. End result is I fried my 2500+ Barton. So for now I have stole my kids 1700+ ( they are not real happy with me) So now I need a new chip. I want to stay under $100 if I can so I am looking at another 2500+ do I want the regular one or the Mobil version? Are either of these chips still coming with the multiplier unlocked? That is pretty big to me as I am still only running on PC2700 so cant get my FSB as high as I would like it but instead like upping the multiplier. Any advice or comments are welcome TIA

Randy, think you have to get a mobile to get one that's unlocked. Not for sure though.

i am pleased with my 2500 mobile. I am running it in a NF7-S . The FSB and multi have to be set manually when first installed or it will default to something like 100 x 6. they do not like high FSB (over 200) but can run sometimes under the right conditions. i can run this one 13 x 200 but not folding.

i found the sweet spot at 175 x 13.5. multis are always unlocked on the mobiles. they have to be for cpu throttling & power save modes on lappys.
