I have the Canon PowerShot S1 IS and very happy with it. It is an excellent mid range camera with lots of features. And the zoom rocks not to mention the video.

bought the Panasonic FZ3, didnt had much time yet to play around, but it seems to be a very nice camera. It feels good, light ( some might classify that as "feels cheap") so far i was only really used to SLR cameras, so holding something light like this, is a big change.
One thing I noticed which I dont like is that they put the zoom actuator on the AF / picture button, so you have to take your finger off the button to zoom and then put it back on to focus and take a picture. I rather would have had it at the control of my right thumb.
....and it only came with a 8MB SD card, how good is that???

For the camera you bought, maybe 3-6 pics. In the higher reso. You can choose which resolution. I always chose the best. In your manual it should tell you how many pics will fit on different size cards, and depending on the reso used.

All cameras come with a small card to start you out. You always have to buy another, or more. Though including just a tiny 8mb card for that camera!? :; That's far too low.

I suggest something like a 256 or 512mb card. Newegg is usually the cheapest for memory cards.

Enjoy! :) :chug :cool :

*btw, circuit city has SD cards on sale this week, with a rebate too. ;)

here a few pictures to show off the capabilities of the 12x optical zoom. I didnt pay any attention to anything else, just point and shoot, and then resize to 640 x 480.

No Zoom

12x optical plus 4x digital zoom =48x

Is it always so dark and gloomy in BC? :P

Great and interesting pics, the contrast.

If you get the time, I'd be interested in seeing those same styled pics, but in a better lit environmnent, or even indoors.

That 12x optical is plain awesome! :chug

But again, remember when using digital zoom, that really is no real feature. It simply crops the center, and enlarges the pic. Something you can do with any decent photo editing application. You may get closer, but you loose quality drastically.

12x optical + 4x digital (i know, I know, some of you will be tempted to lecture on digital zoom etc. ;but I like it anyway to be able to take a picture like this without using photoshop to enhance and enlarge)

if you want a digi cam for pics only i would recommend the hp photosmart r707 (it also has video but no so good). I have this camera and the quality and features are great. Also is 5.1Mp with optical and digital zoom. If you want a camera with good video quality go for the sony dsc-p100.
