Just removed the old, aging, tired but true Celeron 300a, and in went a non-overclocked 800E Slot1 currently running at...my gosh, 800Mhz! :)

My question...I have "genericram" in there now...

I can post, go into windows, do the scene with the FSB upped to 112 Mhz..which makes 896Mhz....but as soon as I run a game or anything CPU intensive, I lock up.

Question:
I'm at 1.6 Volts now.....would throwing more power at the chip get me anywhere? Whats the safe-limit for upping the voltage on one of these chips? 1.7? 1.8?

As for the 112 FSB, could we be talking about my generic Ram? I'd have to say "no" right, because if it runs stable in Windows at 896 doing non-intensive stuff, are we really talking about a CPU overheating or not getting enough juice?

ABIT says that even after a lockup the internal temp of my case is 80f.......I think my Celeron ran hotter than that.

Anyhow......advice please? I've got a small dab of thermal paste and a generic heatsink/fan combo on the chip now....

How fast can I go, and how do I get there :)

REMEMBER: This is a BX6 1.0 so my FSB tweaking comes in 3 flavors...112Mhz and 133Mhz....and normal 100 or 66 too.

Uh..ok, 4 flavors. :)

I would definatly go with a different heat sink and fan combo. Especially if you want to make it to 133 FSB. I have a 600@841 with a Global Win VOS-32 its performance is very close to that of an Alpha and it costs a lot less$$$. I would take care of the heat sink first you may need to increase your voltage to gain stability but that will also increase you heat. Also don't neglect your case cooling as it has a major effect on CPU temp. Good Luck

Probably cooling

I think you need better cooling and if not then maybe its a ram issue.

Just got one of these old boards and have overclocked celerons on them. My 533 runs fine at 112mz with a gorb & arctic silver. My 566 only does 850, wont go turbo even and although I flashed the latest bios, it only recognizes 8.0 multiplier so reports it as 800EB. WcpuID reports it as an 853mz cpu though.

I would think you should get a bit more.
