Bad video card?

Post by d_b »

Friends computer shutdown out the blue. It will power up but the hard drive doesn't spin up. Nothing comes up on the monitor. All fans are running. I say it's the video card. What are your thoughts?

"It will power up but the hard drive doesn't spin up"

Maybe the PS or mobo.. video card doesn't affect the HD?
or i could be terribly wrong?

just a quick guess.... try switching the molex cables around.. or RAM.

haha, just wait for the gosu techs.. to show me up :D

Update..it will now boot up, load windows then shut down.

the reason I say vid card is I had one do that earlier this year. Replaced the video card and it's still chugging along fine. Tried the bad card in another system and the HD's wouldnt spin up.

my $$$ is on the PS.

i've had it where a weak PS would result in one or more optical or hard drives not coming on...reboot...they would appear ok...reboot again...they would disappear.
