3200 ram in a 2700 slot?

Post by 123cool »

As some of you may know i am looking to upgrade my system after christmass but im an arse and decided i would like to buy some 3200 RAM for my mobo to see how far i can really overclock my CPU.

As it stands though my board only supports upto 2700 RAM(currently running 2100 RAM in it one stick of 512MB not sure on make), anyone know if this would be ok.

as far as my logic goes the 3200 ram should just underclock to the 2700 speeds that my mobo can handle....Plus i thought i would keep the 3200 RAM for my full upgrade after christmas(might as well buy the ram now while i have the money).

Yes, you can put faster ram in the system. It's only going to run at the speed the mobo is configured to run the RAM clock.

what kind of motherboard is it ? most ram nowadays is backwards compatible, so you shouldn't have a problem.
