Man on Fire

Post by blade »

Darn good movie. Based on real events that take place in latin america.

Originally this movie was to be made in the early 80's with brando and filmed in what was then the kidnapping capital of the world, Italy. Brando declined saying he can't do some of what was required.

In the 90's Bruce Willis was approached to do this movie and he also declined, unfortunately. He would have been perfect. But has done similar roles and wasn't in the mood to do another of this type. And by then latin america had become the kidnapping capitol so it was to be filmed there.

Denzel Washington did great as Creasy, a role I'll never forget. Takes place in Mexico City. The first 6 days of filming there were 24 new kidnapping cases in mexico city alone. It's gotten out of hand in latin america where a kidnapping takes places every 60 minutes. 60-70% of them die. The remaining 30% that do live usually get a ear or finger cut off.

Has christopher walken and a very delightful little girl named dakota fanning. Directed by Tony Scott (brother of Ridley) who made his big splash directing Top Gun. Then later beverly hills cop 2 and 2 of my all-time favs, The last boy scout (with willis) and true romance. 2 total kick-azz movies. As this one is.

The more I see and think about this movie, the more awesome it is to me. Really emotional. Some great lines in it too. Some by walken, who always makes his lines memorable. One in particular in this movie.

The rundown, that one where rock goes to the amazon. It was 'ok'. Is there a movie that doesn't have walken in it? :d But he always makes them better. He was even in a mid-90's computer game called ripper, doing his usual.

*btw, in man on fire after you watch it, watch the first of it again with the directors commentary on. That's where he mentions there were 24 new kidnapping cases in mexico city their first 6 days there.

Yeah that was a great movie, but it wasn't perfect, it was slow at some parts, and I thought the ending could have been more fulfilling, but eh, what can you do...
