Yeah I upgraded the HDD on the lappy I just bought from SMB. It had a 40Gb 4200 RPM drive. I bought a 60Gb 7200RPM w/ 8MB cache.

Those slow drives are what ruins performance on a laptop.

My friend just got a new lappy that has the 60GB 8MB cache 7200 RPM drive and that sucker flies. Then again it's also a P4 3.2 Ghz, 1 GB Corsair LL RAM, and such but still the drive is top-notch.

there are a few new drives out that have 16meg of cache, but I am not sure what speed rpm they are.

yea, I know a couple of people with those 60g 7200rpm ones and was looking at them my self, then I saw this seagate one.

Best buy sells it for $200

Maxtor has some SATA drives with 16MB cache and 7200RPM. They are the bigger drives. I think the 300GB goes for around $200 online.

I wasn't too big on that HD either.
