eGo's Dream Machine......

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Or is it a dream? I'm debating between upgrading my current computer :

Cheiftec Dragon Case (black w/window)
SeaSonic 450W PSU
Epox 8RDA+
Unlocked Barton 2500XP @ 2.3ghz
SLK-900A
1x512MB PC3200 Corsair XMS Platinum
1xMaxtor 120GB, 7200:8MB
1xRadeon 9000 AIW Pro (64MB)
1xPlextor 708-A DVD +/- R/RW

To :

Cheiftec Dragon Case (Yellow w/window) ~$50
Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU (Titanium Green) ~$90
Epox 9NDA3+ ~$135
A64 3000+ ~$163
Need suggestion for HS/F ~$40?
2x512MB Kingston HyperX PC-4000 ~$273
2xWD Raptor 34GB ~$200
1xSeagate 200GB SATA ~$150
1xRadeon 9800Pro AIW ~$260
1xPlextor SATA DVD +/- R/RW burner ~$116

As you can see I'm trying to escape the world of IDE lol.. :) Can anyone see anything I might want to reconsider? I'm not really too worried about any extreme OCs, but might dable with it a little bit. I know the Video Card isn't TOL, but I may do some finagaling with that part of it. But that's the best AIW card they make right now.

The 2nd part of my debate.. As many of you know, my monitor recently took a dive. I'm currently in the process of trying to fix it. I did find out I may have a free replacement (which is good) but not sure yet. So, Should I stick with what I have and buy the nice new 9800Pro AIW for my HTPC (I already have a 9800Pro in my gaming rig, but was going to switch it to the HTPC and make this new one the gamer) and buy a new 21" monitor? Or should I upgrade the puter and downgrade to say a 17" monitor? Mind you, this upgrade is going to be a piece at a time starting from the items that are compatible with my current rigs and working to the non-compatible.

TIA

I guess I should have mentioned I'm going with Socket 939 since it appears to be the one that AMD is going to stick with and I haven't found a Socket 939 DFI board..

eGo

***EDIT***

I did find that DFI is coming out with LANPartyUT which will sport the same chipset. So that may also be a worthy canidate. That part of the upgrade is still a few months away.. :)

Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU (Titanium Green) ~$90

That seasonic is good, but I agree those X-connect psu's look darn awesome!

As for cpu cooling, check the latest from thermalright. Otherwise the thermaltake venus 12 I think is the one made for the new amd 64's. That'd be my second choice. Luv the fan and the included fan controllers.

Choosing to go to 21" or 17" over deciding on parts, I think I'd prefer the larger screen. If you don't get a replacement for yours.

Lookin' good. :)

hmmm, looks like the x-connect is made by that 'esteemed" psu maker powmax:
http://www.powmax.com/mainpower.htm

A 480w one here for under $30
http://3btech.net/deblch580waa1.html
Though without the special connections.

Non-pretty 480w powmax $11:

:(

Oh how kind of them. Send in a Antec and you'll get 30-$50 back:
http://www.ultraproducts.com/Ultra_Upgrade.html

One for $79

Grrreat pics David :)

I'm not 100% sure powmax makes them, though it appears so. But, I've had them before and they did fine in builds for others. Have a 400w in a system build now that's doing well, that one backed out of. A family member of course. Not a x-connect, but a regular powmax.

I luv that x-connect idea and all round cables. Nice case btw. What kind is that?

Also, does that psu have a bottom fan?

Yes, bottom fan on it and the case is a modded Lian Li PC75. I started a spec fest thread in "Hardware" for more on that case. Will be water cooling later on probably after the holidays.
