Sov, I'm fairly liberal (as you know) and have nothing against gays.
I just think it's hysterical that an OPENLY GAY LESBIAN DEMOCRAT won an election in a Texas county that's the last bastion of republican conservatism.
YOU GO GIRL!!!

Dallas County is the "inner city" county for the DFW area. They have a few wealthy spots (Highland Park for instance) but also a lot of poor parts (Fair Parkfor instance). They barely chose Bush, there was only a 10,000 vote difference. When you compare that to Collin County (suburb area, parts of it still rural, my parents live in the currently growing part (across the street it's basically all fields)) where Bush won by over 100,000 votes, you see the difference between the make-up of the counties and you can understand why Dallas County would elect a sheriff like that.

Well as a resident of Dallas County I can say that her sexual orientation mever came up in any of the election education material I read. Of course, most people probably voted for her because her opponent was a member of the department and an associate of the previous sherriff who is now under multiple federal felony investigations. Oops...
Please don't let residents of Collin County tell you what Dallas County is like. Thats like letting the inmates tell you what prison is like: skewed in one direction and mostly inaccurate.Dallas County is the "inner city" county for the DFW area. My opinion of Dallas county is not from Collin county residents, it's from my aunt and uncle who live there and my personal observations while driving through the different parts. I'm not trying to knock Dallas county at all, it has it's good areas and the area my aunt and uncle live in is rather nice and pretty safe. I was simply trying to point out that the county is made up of different people including the poorer minorities that are south of the city and those people usually vote more liberal/democratic. I don't know all the issues concerning the sheriff race nor will I claim too. I simply was trying to paint a picture of Dallas county as being different than most Texas counties that voted for Bush in a majority.
TruckStuff: Which part of Dallas county are you in? My aunt and uncle are around Preston and Forest.
