I love this laptop

Post by glassoftea »

I got weak in the knees and went to Bestbuy to grab a new laptop. I picked up the emachines 6810, what a machine. I was worried, we all remember the old emachines, but I have read a lot of good things about them recently so I did a little more research standing there in the store and it turns out its a pretty good buy. I have been using it for three days now and I am hooked. I've only played one game, KOR and that ran well. I've been putting all of my cds on it (WMA) and watching movies, not a single lock up, not a single crash. I have copied files form the memory sticks and burned them to cd and ran this thing through its paces. I like this machine, well worth the money.

I'm no fan of eMachines but I hear they're laptops are good. Probably built by someone else and re-badged.

I hear you FP.

A few weeks ago a Sailor at work told me that bought an Emachines laptop, I cringed but didn't tell him why. Of course, after seeing what you get for your money I started doing a little more research on them and decided to give it a shot. I paid 1550 after taxes with a 100 rebate and 150 gift card rebate so 1200 overall, not too bad for this kind of performance. I could replace my desktop with this if I wasn't running a dual monitor setup and recording TV with it. As it stands it will be an awesome deploying computer for me. Gaming, dvd watching, the works, its a nice machine so far.

I know gateway owns Emachines now, the gateway laptops were different from the Emachine but i'm sure they use alot of the same parts internally. Most of the laptops in this class looked similar anyway, most of the chasis look exactly the same, just different guts I guess.

Great little lappy. I almost bought one my self. Their are several threads around the other forums about these. Seems like most folks like them.

If I were to buy a notebook today I would get one of those. I actually almost did...but ofcourse the $ went to my mom to pay more of her stupid bills.

I'm tempted to get one and sell my Dell Inspiron 1150, I could easily get $550 for it since I have a lot of extras with it.

I'd be nice to have something portable that I can play a REAL game on. Not a must have since the lappy is mostly for work, but when I travel it would be nice.

yeah, now you tell me, after i just bought a Dell 1150. I did look at the e-machines, however since I had to many problems in the past with the desk top models did I not go any further then look at them.
May be I should have waited a bit.
I'm not to happy with my Dell.
All the best from the west!

The Dell 1150's a fine laptop - I have one. BUT it's not for gaming. Nice bang for the buck otherwise, and I do love the 4 hour battery.

I installed Farcry on this thing last night, it runs at 1200xwhatever and runs well with the settings on low. I'll play around with it and see how it runs at a lower res with the settings turned up a little. With low settings it was not as nice as a desktop of course but it still looked pretty damn cool and ran fine, no stuttering with lots of badguys and what have you. Now I've got six months to beat that game!

I would knock the resolution down to 800x600 or maybe 1024x768 and I would bet that it'll run Farcry just fine with medium eyecandy.

The only thing holding you back is the small amount of memory on the video card (64mb).
