Wester Dig 160 gigger.. how do I...

Post by Demrok »

Hey guys long time no see!!
Been busy with College and am in need of some help =/
Got a 160 gig WD drive and a FireWire box to slap it in..
this drive is to connect to a MAC G4 PowerBook but I also want to be able to hook it up to my PC to grab files..
now
how in the hell do I set up the hard drive to be recognized as 160 gigs??
so far, with the drive hooked up in my PC I can't get it to be counted for more then 137 gigs...

I tried using the WD software to setup the drive but it still won't count more then the 137 gigs, anyone have any ideas?? LMK please! thanks!

What OS and what mobo? Some hard drive controllers can't recognize a drive larger than 137Gb. Also WinXP with no service pack and Win2K prior to service pack 3 can't recognize drives larger than 137Gb.

I just installed one of those in an xp sp1 system and the seagate utility had to tweak the bios so that it would recognize it - I also have an external FIWI box and I had to format the HD on the pc before it would show up in the FIWI box

a hd controller card would do the trick too...if the mobo/bios is too old to recognize a drive of that size an add-in card will help.
