Hit it big on the slots this weekend... Want a video card!
So I was visiting a friend in Albuquerque this weekend and we went to a casino Saturday night. Half way through my first $20 in the slots, I hit it big for $750!
Now I want a new video card, so what's the best high-end gaming card out there right now? I'm thinking I'd like to go with ATI for that HL2 bundle they have, but I haven't been keeping up with vid cards recently.
amazing. Congrats
best card is the ati RADEON X800 XT PLATINUM EDITION Extreamly hard to find! it is supposed to cost $500 but most places are gouging customers currently because of the extream lack of avaiability
right behind it woudl be the Nvidia 6800 Ultra. I have the 6800GT (about 25 mhz less and $100 less turning in at $400, and it is one badass card. went from the 9800pro to this and its a huge jump.)
if you can find the ATI go for it. it is THE best card out!
HL2 bundle is Long gone. you are going to have to buy the game when it comes out...sorry.

I was looking at that Nvidia card last night and will probably go with it. Nvidia has always been good to me in the past.Originally posted by nexus_7

Couple more questions: When buying Nvidia cards, does brand name matter, e.g. PNY vs. eVga, etc.? I got cash from teh casino, so I'm going to buy retail and CompUSA, etc. usually carry a variety of brands. I usually stick with Nvidia drivers rather than mfg drivers if that matters.
Also, is it safe to assume that Doom3 and HL2 come on DVDs rather than CDs? I don't hace a DVD drive right now, but they are cheap on NewEgg.
doom is on 3 CD's
I go with BFG. there warranty is the best in the business. LIfetime! in 5 years it dies, then send you their latest card that is in the same pricerange that the one you bought in the first place....nice
not only that, but the BFG line of cards come preOC'ed. thus more proformance for the same price. Honestly, I would save the $100 and get the 6800GT OC which is 25mhz slower the the 6800 Ultra and just OC the GT and spend an extra $30 on the VGA NV5 Silancer cooling system. that is what I use on mine and it is Great! also alot quieter and cools the case better. Or if you wana spend the extra $ get the BFG 6800Ultra OC it is pre OC'ed also and then still spend the extra $ on the NV5 Silancer also.
BFG does use the nv refferance drivers anyways.
Compusa does carry bfg last time I checked.

Well, I went shopping this afternoon. I saw a couple of stores had the x800, but they were all out of stock. I got a BFG GeForce 6800 OC (clocked at 350 Mhz).
I was going to d/l 3dMark 03 to benchmark this bad boy, but I don't have enough time to d/l almost 200 mb! I'll get it at work tomorrow...
At any rate, I also picked up doom3, so I'm ready to rock and roll with this puppy!! Also, it came with a game called Far Cry? Is this worth installing? Usually the games that come with these things aren't worth junk, but this one is 5 cds!
