Need help with flat panel

Post by blade_146 »

My wife brought home a Compaq 5017 flat panel from a lady she works cause she said isnt working right and sure enough it doesnt. All it does is flash a white screen. I've never had a flat panel so i dont know if this is a common problem or something that can be fixed by me. Would a new cable help or does it need expert attention?

Probably no hope. Not much you can fix in those things.

Sounds like the display is dead and all you're seeing is the background light.

wait... it could be the cathodes that are bad or the inverter... turn it on again and look at it closely and see if you cant see anything on it. It could be that the inverter is bad and the backlights come on for a second then cut out... but the LCD should still be displaying stuff, but it will be hard to see. try shining a light at it and see if you can see anyting.

does it have both VGA and DVI inputs? could just one or the other be bad? (unlikely but just throwing out an idea)
