Digital Camera....[56K Beware]

Post by DaMaN »

Heya, took my kid to the Yankee game today and used my Canon SD100 Digi-Cam and the pics were clear and adequate, I wish it had more digital zoom and an optical zoom to get the pictures I really wanted to take. Here are the specs:

Digital zoom: 3.2
Effective sensor resolution: 3.2 megapixels
Light sensitivity: ISO 100
Still image format: JPEG
Lens aperture: F/2.8-3.9
Interchangeable lens: No
Optical zoom: 2 x
Weight: 0.4 lbs
I guess i traded ultraportability for performance.( Weight: 0.4 lbs) but am willing to carry something heavier for better performance. What you guys reccomend I am ready to trade / sell mine for a step up. I guess I prefer Secure DIgital Memory but am Flexible to change. What do you guys reccomend?

Forget digital zoom. ;) It's only a gimmick the makers use to help entice buyers that aren't aware of how useless it is. It's a gimicky selling point they use, nothing more.

All digital zoom does is enlarge the center of the pic, therefore you lose quality. You can do the exact same thing with any decent photo software.

Digital zoom should be outlawed because so many 'think' they are getting a real added and useful feature. They are not.

"Optical" zoom, is TRUE zoom. ;) Never even use digital zoom, unless you just want a closer look.

2 and 3x optical zoom is almost as useless, except for getting closer on some indoor and few outdoor shots. 6 or 10x optical zoom is what we really need. Some cameras have that, but of course are more expensive.

10x is about equal to a 200mm lense on a regular slr 35mm camera.

Nice camera! :)

I'm in love with the Nikon D70, myself. I've always loved SLR's and Nikon has always made top notch stuff. I'll probably get it once the kit falls below $1k. The Digital Rebel is nice, but I don't like the way it looks and handles, and that it comes with a pretty subpar objective.

I really like my Kodak instamatic. :)

I have a sony P32 or something like that. Which I could justify getting a better digicam but I can't.

DaMan -You going to post the pics from the game?

ok here they are, I suck as a photographer.........My daughter took a couple as well.
It was American Girl Day at Yankee Stadium. American Girl is a brand of Doll that is popular now and the stadium gave away 14,000 yankee doll outfits to the first 14,000 girls in attendance. We got 80.00 seats five rows from third base. Awesome view of the game. My kid had a blast.

Hey yall I decide to pick this up instead of the digital rebel:

The PowerShot S1 IS

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/s1is.html

I could not justify to myself spending that much for a camera. I know I will graduate to a digital SLR later but for now this will do as far as an upgrade is concerned. I am not as knowledgeable as Blade and Billygoat and some of you folks so I gues this camera will be my next stepping stone :D
