Ahhhh

Those days of the immortal 300a.
I 'believe' my first system when at agn was a 486/66, 4mb ram, 1mb video card. Upgraded later to a 133 (with an overdrive chip) and 16 megs of ram. Even played quake on it. It was a slide show, but I still played it.

Those ambient sounds had me hooked.
Briefly had a p120.
Once prices went down I upgraded to a p200mmx 32mb ram. First system I built. Tried a crappy ati 2mb 3d card, but sent it back because it did nothing to help. Later got a voodoorush 6mb video card. Hey, it had Turok free with it (anyone have that game?) . Now I wuz cooking. Turok was fun, but most importantly, I could play GL Quake!

ow
Then Unreal came out.

My sytem would barely play it at 512x384, with most things turned off. But, got a voodoo 2 12mb along with riva 128 2d card. It said 3d too, but... Anyway, I could play Unreal at 800x600, most of the time with no chop.
But then it happened. A gift from the Gawds it was! The
300a
Here were most of us running the 300a at 450 and above while the fastest chip Intel had out was the p400.
From the voodoo 2 I went to the Voodoo 3 16mb. Never did the SLI thing. Then from the 300a to the 366@550, the 600@800, etc..
Now I've got a xp2500+@3200 (2.2ghz), 1gb ddr 3200, 5600 128mb. And Doom 3 still chokes at times. Gahhh It really heats my system up.
