I thought 2000 was a pretty lean year for games, I bought less this year than any other. My choice for overall GOTY is No-one Lives Forever just squeezing right in at the end of the year. It had nice graphics, good humour, good sounds and nicely thought out puzzles.

I must say that most of this year I've played a good deal of UT which is still one of my favourite games. I think this may have limited my purchasing certainly in the early part of the year.

So what gems did I miss (or have just forgotten) ? What was your GOTY?

I'd say Deus Ex was GOTY, with honorable mentions to NOLF, Diablo 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Vampire the Masquerade and Counterstrike.

Other decent games I played were Rune, Cataclysm, Elite Force, Soldier of Fortune, FAKK2, Project IGI, Mech 4 and Giants.

Heavy Metal FAKK2(I'm a fan of the Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2k movies so I enjoyed the game alot)
Sacrifice

Spent more time playing CounterStrike than anything else though.I played the demo of No-one Lives Forever and liked it,just never got around to picking it up.

How could I have forgotten Deus Ex...? I'm changing my vote, NOLF was really entertaining but Deus had my hooked right up to the end.

NoLF was a great game, but I liked the theme/atmosphere and gameplay style more in Deus Ex, but that's just me... both were excellent games overall...

Umh, I gues Grand Prix 3 will be that for me. Prolly the game I will spent most time on over the next year or so...and more depending on sequels :) It's not perfect but it's the best racing sim out there and if you've go 16 qualifying setups, race setups, rain setups and tweaking to do, hey, that takes a while :)

Otherwise I mainly play Quake 3, almost every night, but that was reeleased in 1999 no?

Baldur's Gate 2--the best game I've played
NHL 2001--the game I've played the most. I've never figured out why editors of magazines every year give the sports game of the year to FIFA, when NHL and NBA Live are more fun to play. FIFA is ok, but not nearly as much fun as the other two.

Is BG2 really any good I was a bit worried that having completed the whole of BG 1 I would find the whole thing too "here we go again!".

BG2 had the highest review ratings I have ever seen for an RPG, plus the gaming community can't stop raving about it, so there's youre answer.

I bought the game back when it came out, played it for a bit and got distracted, but it's still on the HD and I will be playing it again soon...

I'm also torn between Deus Ex and NOLF... great games :)
I spent the most time on Counter-Strike. A couple other great notables are The Sims and Diablo 2.
Some of the sports games were great as always, but they don't seem to get much recognition from the online crowd. Best were High Heat 2001 and NHL 2001. NBA 2000 and FIFA 2001 are both very fun, as well. My favorite sports game was probably NBA Live 2000 (it's really a '99 game, but NBA Live 2001 is not out yet.
My highest overall rating goes to Deus Ex, it's the first game I've ever played through twice.
BTW my dad loved BG2... he also played BG1, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. I don't think the "here we go again!" thing is too big a problem ;)
