HELP! I HATE Internet Exploiter!

Post by jealous57 »

I keep getting random massive pop ups telling me to log into passport. I have disabled messenger, windows messenger, and msn messenger, and I still get this crap. It is most annoying when trying to play a game and it makes the game minimize and I get anywhere from 1 to 9 of these friggin' windows. Nobody I talk to seems to know what the hell is going on, they have never had this problem. Ant help or insight greatly appreciated. :mad

Yup, reboot your computer, get rid of any background apps (maybe passport starts automatically with Windows? check that or see if you can uninstall it), run adaware and then spybot, then try using MyIE2 which has a popup and ad blocker...

IE alteranates are no longer resistant to certain pops-ups. AARRRRRRGGGGGG but just add the site to your list and poof!!!! There needs to be registries of sites that get blacklisted and after 500 bans its blocked by all users. much like global game cheat(s)(ers)
spyware blaster is a great app to turn off activeX to keep other shit from auto INSTalling

Check your user account settings and make sure that your account isn't tied to a Passport account.

Also, disable Windows Messanger from running.

Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc

In that goto Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Messenger

Set both of the items there to be Enabled and then reboot. It disables Windows Messanger from running.

I am currently using Netscape. The pop ups open IE themselves. I have already disabled all that stuff listed, ran Spy Bot S&D, Adaware, and even NAV thinking it was a virus of some type. Right after I made this post, I changed the IE homepage to http://www.google.com, heh, so far so good.

I wonder if your HOST file is jacked up?

I severely doubt it's the hosts file.

It could be a genuinely corrupted file. Or it could be a hijacker.

try running hijackthis and post the result on a forum meant for this kind of thing.

i've always had luck with tweakxp forums.

Check you background apps in the Startup tab in MSCONFIG. You may have something running that requires a PASSPORT account.

There's several 3rd party apps that require PASSPORT - I know of a couple of Real Estate apps that require you to logon to PASSPORT. Even some online gaming services.

This should tell you what it is and allow you to remove it.

I checked this out, it tells you the programs loaded into internet explorer, and gives you the option of removing it. Only thing is, you should know what it does before you remove it. else you might get some unexpected results with some programs you've installed and are using.
