Is DVI input REAL important on a FP display?

Whew!
Been reading reveiws on 19 inch flat panels all morning and seems this isn't going to be a cut and dry go with the flow choice.
I'm just a few weeks away from having the money saved ($600 max) and just beginng some serouis research.
I do realize the max rez is lower than a crt but I run at 10x7 anyway and that 25ms responce time in games I think I can live with.. Might have to run to best buy for some hands on if I can get a seat with a game running. seems all there shelf displays have a blurry add on then and can't tell squat from that.

And Hey if anyone owns a 19" flat and loving it, post a link here so I can research it. I'd like to get somthing that is at least comparible to my Sony 19" 420GS which is a great crt monitor and be hard to match IMHO.
The ones Ive been looking at (at newegg) don't have DVI input, just the D-sub. Has anyone done a side by side comparison? Is it a must? Is there a BIG differance?

Confusing stuff I tell ya with mixed reviews I've read. Some say a FP won't match a good crt and others say gosting is a hugh problem and others say it not...on the the SAME display! HUH? I was hoping I could find one that blows everthing away. not

I'd love to get twin 17's like the Penguin did but that aint gonna happen soon. Hell, I just got the Wifes appoval for just ONE 19".. LOL!

Any links, review sites or testamonies, would be great as I'm flat panel stupid.. but the seed has been planted and well.. All PCA members knows what happens next.. BUY!

Just trying be careful on this one.. Lot o money and will be biggest single hardware purchase ever.. Cept for the $800 Sony I'm looking at right now. (my God how things have changed!)

DVI is a pretty drastic improvement in quality, especially with bigger size LCD's. It eliminates all analog noise (streaking, smearing) and it also makes the monitor easier to use because you do not have to adjust the picture at all to fill the screen, since both input and output are digitally perfect. I think its definitally worth it for a 19" flat, especially if you have the right hardware to complement it.

On a 19" you probably will indeed see a big difference. I sweated long and hard over my LCD purchases (bought 2 of them for dual monitor). I went with the NEC Multisync LCD1765 17" that's analog only.

Despite being analog, the image quality on these monitors is superb. Most of the reviews commented on how well it looked for an analog LCD.

I went with this monitor ultimately (despite not being DVI which I first considered a negative) because of the stunning image quality - especially in games - and the very fast 16Ms response time.

I also liked them because they have a clear acrylic panel protecting the screen as opposed to the normal textured and mushy soft LCD screen that also acts as a dust and fingerprint magnet (these monitors look just like glass displays).

I got a Viewsonic VP171b Flat Panel that has both analog and digital. I like using my digital connection because I have nothing to worry about when it comes to adjusting the screen and whatnot. This is a nice monitor but more expensive for a 17" but I think it's worth it. 16ms response time. I see no ghosting issues what so ever. It also has 2 analog along with the digital input so you can have 3 computers off the same monitor. Also supports 720p HDTV if that matters to you or not.
