for this..........

not sure I can justify that much loot for it tho. :( Gonna wait a week and see if it comes down a little. :D

First time I've seen them listed on the "zipper" and they show as "out of stock" already. WTF? :(

Its a special order item, youd have to be pretty "special" to buy at that price ;)

I hear that, especially when they have the Plextor 8X version at $125 after $30 mail in rebate. Not a bad deal there. I've always liked their stuff. I still have a Plex 12x/10x/32x cdrw in my kidz' rig. Must be close to four years old and still runs like a top. :)

:d rool That's spiffy.. I like it. heh.. I have two DVD Burners now.. Plextor 708A and a NEC-2500A Finally got them both to burn at 8X (both needed to be flashed to newer firmware). Love them both. Fixing to do some modding and rearranging this weekend so that I can get all of my computers set up the way I want them. Need another AIW now that I have cable.. heh.. :) I think I'm gonna wait on buying another DVD burner for a while.. Unless a client wants to buy one, then I'll get me a new one and sell them one of mine.. :D

I have 2 Plextors in my main rig - both SCSI - one a 32x reader and the other is a 12x4x32 burner. I've had these 2 for over 5 years with zero problems. The Plextor burner has probably burned 3000+ CD's in it's life in my rig. To bad they don't have a "burn count" like in printers where you have a "paper count".

When Plextor's first came out they were suppossed to be "burn proof", essentially you could burn it as fast as possible without having to worry about any indiscrepencies in the data...... I tested this/watched it being tested, and to no avail it wasnt burn proof, but still damn close to it. They are nice though.

That firmware will not work with most ND-2500A .. and even if it works it is highly likely that the burned dual-layer discs won't be readable in other drivers and/or have a very high error rate. Ah yes, you'ld also void the warranty when you flash it with an unofficial firmwares.

Well, yer should see how bad most of the current 8x DVD burners are burning at 8x (it is bad ... really bad). Finding a working drive+media combo for 8x isn't an easy task (well, most burn fine at 4x ...). I wouldn't go for the 12x right now after seeing how bad the current 8x are.

don't get me wrong...i wouldn't actually do it. i still burn at 2.4x!!! i have an NEC 4x +R that has burned ~200 movies w/out a coaster...and i've never bothered to use 4x media. :)

i'm not going to upgrade until the blue laser is cheap and i can have massive storage on one dvd for backups...or multiple movies on one dvd. :)

I passed on the 12x, but I did order the 8x plex today. :) $154 and a $30 rebate. I already have another $30 rebate (already sent into them) from one I got for a customer last month. So I'm in at less than $100 for it. :D

Yo !! what's up? Nice to see you back. :cool : ;)

As far as the math goes.........the more things change the more they stay the same.

Let's face it, if there's a way to rationalize a hardware purchase, I've used it. :D
