DVD Playback on Sapphire Radeon 9600 pro
DVD Playback on Sapphire Radeon 9600 pro
I recently bought a Sapphire Radeon 9600 pro and want to watch dvd's on it. I downloaded the latest catalyst drivers, then realized I needed to buy the mmc cd and did so. The problem I'm having is the cd for mmc won't install. It says the inf file is not installed on the cd, yet the cd came from ATI. Anyone have one of these and can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Mage

Not exactly sure what you're talking about. Most of us use a 3rd party DVD player like PowerDVD which works great.
Even Windows Media Player can play DVDs (although it's less than an ideal player).
I'd be very suprised if your video card didn't come with a DVD player (usually a lite version of PowerDVD - that's what came with my ATI 9800XT), unless you bought an OEM version maybe?

The card I bought was in fact oem. The only softare that came on the cd with the card is the driver, control panel, hydravision, and dx. I think what I need to do is install the dvd decoder software for the Radeon 9600, which is why bought the cd from ATI. This is the cd I bought, but it will not work, the error I receive is
which leads me to believe I bought the wrong cd? Any ideas guys, buy a diff cd? Is it possible to get the dvd decoder driver from somewhere else cuz I already bought one $20 cd? Thanks so much for the helpINF error Video Driver not found
I always had great experience with the ati dvd software. I guess thats one of the reason i buy ati made cards.
when I get home Iwill see what disks I have and see if they are different.

Thanks alot guys, you are great. Here's an update: I put in a dvd and it autoread and asked which program I would like to open it with, I chose real player. The program tried to access the internet and download a dvd decoder, it said it couldn't and closed. I downloaded power dvd and tried to play a dvd and it worked. I'm thinking that power dvd was software decoding only though. I think I still need to download/install the dvd decoder to get true hardware decoding.

Nah.. I don't have any decoder software on my computer for either my ATI or my NVidia cards and they both play DVDs without a hitch. No need for anything special as the others here have said..

Talk with ATI and tell them what's up. Maybe you'll get a refund or an answer. Also, I didn't think that most video cards did hardware MPEG2 decoding...thought you needed a seperate decoder card?
