my cpu is overheating, ahh, help me plz
ok, i turned on my computer and turned on the program mbm5 and it read the temperature of my cpu at 25 C and case at 44 C, in a second, it changed to 75 C for cpu and 71 C for case, wtf, what should i do, whats the problem, i need a solution fast
i have a P4 2.4 ghz cpu and a heat sink, this kind of heatsink, if any of this helps

Sure you got the right sensors?
Chosen for your read outs? I have the same type of problem on one of my rigs using Sandra, the temps are all over the play from 15*C-55*C for the CPU.. Crazy.. I also saw this on a P4 2.6 doing the same thing your describing, but it also showed the fan speed jumping from 500RPM-30,000RPM go figure.. lol..

Couldn't Be Sure..
You might try another monitoring program just to verify.. Or check the temps in the bios and see what they say..

Hmm..
Well, I'm no P4 guru.. But my understanding is that they throttle down not reboot because of overheating? I guess I could be wrong..

you should ALWAYS use some sort of thermal compound on your heatsink and processor. But dont overdo it.
Right now, check the fan on your heatsink and make sure its working and spinning as fast as it should and is blowing downward torwards the processor. If it is working, then remove the heatsink and put it back on to make sure its seated correctly.
As ego suggested, try another program to montior the temps, as well as whats shown in bios.
What motherboard do you have? it could just be a faulty sensor

Gone for good. But never say never
a couple of simple things to do
crack the case and get the dust bunnies out of your air intakes, fans, etc.
if you have some heatsink compound, clean your cpu and your heatsink and then apply a little but of the thermal paste - a little means a little - the compaound is designed to fill the scratches and surface imperfections so that the two surfaces meet
after doing all that boot it up and go into the bios
make sure the voltage is set correctly for the cpu, and it should give you a reading of the cpu temp
if the cpu temp is within range after say 10 min, then you may have mbm set up improperly
it doesn't work very well on some boards, such as dell or other propietary boards
there are other programs out there - just go to zdnet or cnet and see what is available

SiSoft Sandra
Do a search in google for it. I would trust the bios before I would trust MBM5 but that's me..

I would say, run abunch of programs and then restart real quick and check to see what the bios says then. if it is still i nthe 40 area then you are jsut fine.
