In Bio's defense - Having a T1 is only $450 a month. This is without the worries of DSL or cable. It's a deditcated constant line, which is the main advantage of a T line. This is why major corps go with T lines and not DSL. Agreed 4gigs of RAM might be a little nutty but, you tell that to the server that is trying to cache the "expected" traffic!

I say, GO FOR IT buddy!

Not sure if it's in his area or not but a full t1 for 450 a month is way cheap, what I mean is if it's just for a home server where you trade mp3s even 450 a month is a load of money.

True, T1s are reliable (I miss the one I had at work before University). But Cable is faster than T1 in many cases.

I'd recommend either 3 meg or faster SDSL (you NEED the S for any kind of server!!!). Corporate DSL is almost as reliable as T1, at a fraction of the cost.

OR See if your cable company allows multiplexing of cable modems, or a faster cable connection.

problem with the cable company is the lack of ability to UPLOAD. It's slow, it's got limitted band width... and I'm most likely going to start running my own small ISP :) gotta start somewhere. Unfortunately I checked the local T1 prices and they're $1150 a month (putting a slight strain on this plan)

Also I ran into a snag with the mobo. MAX ram for the board is 2gb, BUT the max size dimm is only 256 (not 512mb)... basic math tells me something is WRONG with this picture.
