Radar Detectors

Post by chottoED »

I just ordered myself an Escort Solo S2...

Performance is slightly lower to that of the 8500 (best from my research)

I know about the V1 but it seems overpriced for the performance although it does pretty good on laser tests.

Anyone have thoughts? Recommendations?

V1 all the way. My buddy has one and it has saved his ass more than once. I know a lot of other guys in the Seattle area that run with them and they love them. The escorts are nice though and cost less.

Radar detectors.. I've just kind of had to learn and remember where they usually hang out. They don't change their positions much, and they also try to hide in turns so that you can't see them until it's too late, and if you can't see them, I would think it would be hard to detect the laser/radar... I've owned several over the years but word of mouth makes the V1 the best in my book. Everyone who buys one swears by it. I finally bought one last summer and it is a very good unit. I tend to trust it so much that I drive in the more radar enforced areas faster than ever as it makes me very confident.

I've got a Valentine 1, and its the :p :p :p :ping best. I've picked up a cop over 1.5 miles away. It's great. Even better around here, since they're not legal in virginia, the state troopers just leave their radar guns on all the time. You pick them up forever.

The most common radar band is "X". Towns with no money use it, and every grocery store uses it for the friggin self-opening doors. Around here, Ka is the digital "K" band gun, and is what most of the cops use.

Its a double standard if you ask me.

X is most prevalent in the chicago area; CPD has a lot of older X guns. K is growing, but still far and few between. Ka is rare, but the lock-on range of it is really short. i never dismiss K and Ka warnings unless they're known false alarms. X is all over the place and has a relatively long detection range (at least on mine).

....just days ago I was cruising at 85 mph in a 65 mph zone that then switches to a 55 mph zone. A guy decides to go past me at about 90mph and my V1 is telling me that radar's ahead so I back off. Sure enough, a cop is just sitting there in an unusual spot, follows and nabs the guy who was was going 90. I just laughed :)

The V1 rocks!

One thing to remember, laser can only be used while cop is sitting still, a moving patrol car can only use radar. Also, no radar detector is gonna help with airplane/helicopter cops or a pacing patrol car. Keep an eye on the rear view mirror....

I beg to differ, one time at night I was driving (somewhat fast too) and this car is coming at me in the other lane and then all of a sudden I get shot almost in the eyes with a laser beam, and whaddaya know we pass each other and its an Indiana State Trooper....... I went over the hill he just came up and started hauling and then I look in rear view his brake lights hit..... To end the story he did turn around but by the time he did that I was already at the stop sign at the end of the street and turned onto the next street.

I mail-ordered it from Valentine. Nobody else sells them.

It's actually legal to OWN a radar detector, and you can even have it in the car, if there's no power source for it in the car.

And a further note, I found out today, that the V1 is the only detector not picked up by radar detector detectors.
