Oh man. I'm such a linux newb...

Post by CaterpillarAssassin »

So I'm trying to get into my X window system. But it gives me the error after flashing the screen a couple times :

(EE) VMWARE(0): Currently unavailible depth of 16 requested.
The guest X server must run at the same depth as the host (which is currently 24). This is automatically detected. Please do not specify a depth on the command line or via the config file.

(EE) Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
No screens found

Apparently I just need to change the color depth to 24 bit. But I dont know how to get into the configuration. I've tried googling but nobody has JUST the command lol.

Thanks, the newb.

I can't remeber the command myself. But If you go to Linuxiso.org, they have a forum that covers your distribution, and they could probably help you out.

I just got Mandrake 9.2 for a dual boot on my old spare with scsi, easier install than xp! Had to rob parts off the puter since so haven't run it but think I'll try it dual boot on my personal machine next.

I tried Mandrake 10.0 but it really messed up my hard drives, so I went out and bought SuSE 9.0. It seems a bit better than mandrake 9.2, and definitely better than RedHat 9.0

Only problem I've had and cant figure out is when I go to install aim it cant find the libc ++ module. So I've been using the aim that came with it. That and it has lousy support for VIA 8233 onboard sound. Gets all scratchy when playing flash files.
