Bad economy - Good deal on an apt

Post by Judg3 »

Hey guys,
Since I have to relocate for my new job, I went looking for apartments up in MN - site unseen. Found a real nice one, but the price was over 1100$/month for it. Called em, talked about it - and they knocked off 300$ as well as waived the pet deposit stuff. I'm pretty psyched, it's a cool place. vaulted ceiling, diswasher, FP, 1200 sqft 2 bed 2 bath. I wanted to find a duplex or house for rent, but I couldn't pass up on this deal!

hehehe - FP = Fireplace.

Even though I got a deal, it's still more then I've ever paid for an apt - but I'm tired of moving every year and wanted a place I could bunker down in and stay at least 5 years. It's cool cause it's like 20 mins from downtown Minneapolis, but it's a real nice town. Living in Chicago and Milwaukee area for so long, I forgot most cities have nice suburbs a stone throw from the big city. My credit really sucks since I got laid off and worked for myself, so I had to pay a months rent as the deposit, but at least I got it. If the economy was better, I probably wouldn't have.

Now to fix my credit so I can buy a new car with a decent APR and I'm all set lol

I'm really just happy to be getting out of this place I'm in now - it's horrible. The management sucks too - took the landlord almost a week to put in a doorknob for the front door, the windows are absolutely horrible and with a wind over 5 mph might as well be wide open, there are STILL tools left here by the landlord, i had to put the place together (fan grills, light covers, etc), the broiler in the oven wasn't cleaned and was absolutely disgusting with rancid grease and about a dozen other things! But hey, it's cheap - besides, everyone needs a kitchen with 3 different, clashing, shades of linoleum, right?

There's just the two of us there, me and the wife. Unfortunately, she won't let me have the office be the master bedroom - I tried to tell her the bathroom should be closer to the office, but she didn't budge lol

Thanks for the offer Sundog - I appreciate it! But, since I've already locked myself into it and they shown me a bunch of pics, I'll just wait till Friday and be surprised.

I did do the important things before hand.

Setup the phone? I'll do it when I get there
Setup utilities in my name? I'll do it when I get there
Setup cable + cable modem? I'll be rolling in to the apt at noon, sign the papers, start unpacking and the cable guy will be there at 1:30. My priorities are straight!

Oh, and BigC, tell me about it - I can't believe her either. She wouldn't let me put a fridge, microwave, hot plate, or coffee maker in there either!

damn dude. $800/mo? Thats awesome for that place. Theres a place around here very similar to the layout of that and sq footage. But its kinda in the ghetto. That wouldnt bother me so much as the looks us two white guys got walking into the place. But good luck with it!
