Unlocking Xp 2800

Post by ShibasScotch »

Ok so I finally got my new system
Athlon XP 2800 Barton
1gb Coarsair Twin-x LL Platnium :)
My Gf 4 ti-4200 got migrated
2 80WD 800jb drives in Raid-0
All on a Gigabyte 7NNXP
so I start to overclock, to see how far I can push it
I can post at 195 fsb but windows wont load had to turn it all the way down, even thou I was slpwing the multiplier down to 10x, then I realised after I got into XP, that It was clocking at 2300 Mhz at 180 fsb (estimated dont remember exactly) and I figured that this chip was still locked.

Ao anyway, I have googled it for a while, and cant find a trusting way to unlock this sucker... any ideas?

-Thanks
Tim !

Yeah as far as I know Pred is right the newer Barton's are multiplier locked and I have not seen any way of changing that as of yet.

They are actually "laser cut" at the factory and no matter what you try to do you'll not be able to mod it to unlock it. It's just like the Intels. AMD did this to keep the "remarkers" from selling them in systems for $200 more than they were worth. They'll actually be locking all of their CPUs (less the lower level ones and the FX51 series) to prevent this. But, you should still be able to crank the FSB on that chip up to at least 200+ and get it to around a 3200+ GL eGo

I have a locked XP2500+ running at 11x210. I also have an XP3000+ that will run at 12x200 on an nForce board but on a KT600 I can't change the multiplier. The best I have gotten on the KT600 is 13x180.

Yes, it has a high multiplier, and that is the problem. I cant knock it up to 200 fsb, it reads at like 2500 mhz (12.5 x 200) and wont post. if i turn it down just a bit, then it will post, but windows wont boot :( , So i am running it stable at 180 fsb which is 2250 mhz. but I want the 200 damnit ! :)
