HD Tach shows a better chart for comparison. The VIA just flat out smokes the nForce on SATA performance. :D

I can live with being owned. stuff here is for referrence only. Same cpu on an nforce mobo running 200+ FSB will probably bench even higher.......but the total pkg??.......ummm well, if ur using an IDE HDD on an nforce2.....let's just say...... that if that thing had a shell, it would be a turtle. :B

msg is meant strictly for PRED and not any of the other fine, upstanding consumers of nvidia produkts. :cool :

Single IDE drives on Nforce2 boards are just fine. Its only you Raid users that have problems with their SATA controller on them :D Its plenty fast enough for me. :)

U know I'm just bustin'. It's another way to go for sure. I like tryin' weird stuff and different configs mostly to stay current with hardware trends for my system builds for customers. It's "all good". :)

Absolutely, That is the point here, not which mobo or config one chooses to use. Where are you going to get that kind of performance for that kind of money? An XP-M 2400+ is a stone cold steal @ $77 shipped and if you want the extra head start, the xpm 25's and 26's are still within reach as well.

Now that I know what these things will do , it creates some very nice options regarding builds for people. Somebody wants a budget gaming system?........how 'bout this?

$61 Shuttle an35n ultra ( o/b sound , LAN )
$77 xmp2400+ ( running 2.2 to 2.5 GHz, maybe even higher ! )
$82 512MB Buffalo Winbond
$90 Seagate 120 / 8MB
$70 LiteON 52/32/52 and a DVDrom
$10 Floppy
$79 Chieftec case and 450W psu
$30 for a decent fan/hs

You're in @ $499 plus the price of the graphix card of your choice. With a 9800pro, You're still only looking at $710 or so total.

That ain't bad in my book.

Trust me, you ant even scratchin' the surface. Sweet numbers nonetheless, especially at default voltage.

I have this DFI Infinity mobo in here tonite for the first time with the mobile to do some OCin' testing. Good news is, unlike the MSI KT6, on the DFI mobile proc runs as unlocked. So in the PCA tradition, why mess about. :laugh

I've got a ratty XP install on here that I'll probably do over, but right now i cranked it out to 12x217 FSB ( 2605 MHz per wcpuid ) and I'm going to run prime on it and go to sleep. See how things look in the AM.

update: that didn't take long. hard crash, blue screen. mem dump. HAHA

12x211 and seems fine, prime runnin' ok early on. I'm gonna crash instead of the 'puter. :D 1AM and I have to work in the morning.

'nite...

Updated ( 3-8-04 )

After some screwin' around last nite, and this morning, with voltages and flashing to a performance beta BIOS, all is good @ 12.5 x 208 ( 2.61 GHz ) . Nice chip. runs prime no problemo now. 1.82v is required on the cpu, 1.7v chipset, 2.8v on the RAM. Temps are good , 42C load, case 26C. Idles around 35-36C according to MBM5.3

That's with all the side panels on the case too. :)

ok, moved some memory around

2400xp mobile
8rda+/slk800/2x256 crucial 3200
currently 12x200 @ 1.65 @ 42C folding

wouldn't boot into windows at 12.5x200 @1.75 so i'll try later when i'm sure this is stable

benchies sandra 2004
relaxed memory timings atm 8-3-3-4 or thereabouts

arith 9128/3793
mm 22,067/22,290
mem 3072/2890

not too shabby for $77 shipped :)

I should say so ! Don't be afraid to slap some voltage on these mobiles. I'm running 1.85v and my temps are fine @ 36C idle / 45-46C load. It took about 36 hours for my thermal paste to set but once it did my temps dropped 3-4C.

change one thing.......

vid card sent south last night while playing with this setup - it was a softmod 9500/9700 - appeared to be overheating - would just stop during gaming - clocked it back, raised voltage, etc.

will have to move some vid cards around tonite
