Cannot copy <certain file> The path is too deep, WTF is this error?

Post by Absolut Talent »

I am trying to resort my Anime server a bit...
So i have to copy some files from one harddrive to another. But when I try to do so...I keep getting a "Cannot copy <certain file> The path is too deep" error and it wont copy.
I can copy TO the drive just fine....but I cant copy off of it

Its not like its hidden within 10 folders either.

Right now, its set up as
G:/anime/
and in that Anime folder, is each series in a independant folder
Thats how its set up on all my drives

I have tried renaming the folders to something simple...but still no go....

and its only with that one drive too...

btw, win2k pro is the OS

odd. is this error from the command prompt or from the gui?
also, is it only copying movies when it happens or other things?

Have you done adefrag recently? I find alot with movie drives that they can be fragmented easily.

well....i tried defragging....but it wouldnt let me because "chkdsk is currently scheduled to run on this drive"

All thats on those drives are movies
and its from within windows, clicking and dragging

I dont know why....but I unplugged one drive (which wasnt being used for any part of the copying) and it seemed to work alright...

its really wierd because i havnt dont anything to this system...and it suddely started doing that....

might be a bad cable then if you unplugged one drive.
