Hey I have another Q.

Would I have needed crossover cable if I was going to use my onboard 3com and nVidia ports to share my connection?

And

My computer will always have to be on to share my connection this way won't it?
Didn't you know?
-Know what?

-WHAT!?

if you are going to share the connection strait to another PC with out a hub / switch, then yes, you will need a crossover cable

and yes, if you share the connection the PC that is doing the sharing needs to be on for the other to see the internet

That's not true Dopey. I have dynamic and am straight ethernet just I use DHCP to get my IP and such. And I have used a DSL connection that was dynamic and didn't require PPPoE. PPPoE is like having a dial-up connection but instead of using a regular phone line you use Ethernet (PPPoE means Point to Point Protocol (modem dial-up) over Ethernet).

A crossover cable allows for a link between PCs without any intermediate hardware.

pseizure: To share your internet, a typical situation would be internet connection going into your 3Com NIC and a crossover cable hooked up to the nVidia NIC. The other side of the crossover cable is hooked to the other PC. Using XP, it's all basically wizard based. 2k is not as wizard based but not that hard to setup. 98 and ME just suck and if you have those I would suggest saving up some money and getting a router.

*EDIT*

pseizure: Check out http://www.practicallynetworked.com for more info about sharing and networking.
