System Halts Out of Nowhere..

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Hey Guys.. I was chattin' away on the PC tonight doing nothing else. And out of nowhere the comp restarted. No reason for it.. I tested the stick of memmory that is in it now and it runs docmem just fine. In fact, I don't have any problems with it until it goes to start windows. My Raid array says it's functional and it starts up and tries to boot, but as soon as I say "start windows normally" it just halts, no more goes it. I tried swapping out the PSU and no go. This is very agrivating to say the least. It's been running flawlessly for quite some time. I've also reset the CMOS and it's a no go as well. Any thoughts or ideas? Is there anyway to make it boot from the IDE drive first, then the Raid array? As it seems, it goes to the raid no matter what the settings in bios. TIA guys.. eGo

you should be able to specify in the boot portion of your bois to boot to HDD-0 or SCSI first.

What I've Done,

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

And what I'm doing tonight when I get home.

Done :

* Swapped Memmory w/known good stick and tested w/DocMem
* Swapped PSUs
* Reseated Memmory and IDE Cables
* Reseated All Power Connectors

Will Do :

* Reseat HSF
* Change Cases
* Cry while I'm formatting my HD and losing all of the data

Hopefully I can get it fixed without the last step.

BitGuard

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Also did some searching and found out this mobo has BitGuard which is supposed to prevent problems. Hmm.. Sure could have fooled me.. I'll have to have some fun with this thing tonight I think. It's not "shutting" down, it just hangs.. Very weird..

Ok.. Well, I completely moved the whole rig to another case, a different HSF and a different CPU and it's a no go.. *sigh* I don't know what the hell is wrong, but it's pissed me off.. So I'll leave it be until this weekend. Or maybe a little later this afternoon. I'm just curious why it's run for almost 3 months straight if not longer and just out of nowhere.. pffft...

It seems that the CPU may have been on and fallen off it's last leg. Moved it to a different case and get everything to power up monitor makes a noise, but no screen.. Seems like Dead CPU symptoms to me? What do you guys think? eGo
