CPU Spikes

Post by demonmonkey1234 »

I think my CPU is on crack... any know why or what could cause this and is there any way to make it chill out and just run normal. It'll run fine and then on the desktop just stop and I'll hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and go to the proformance tab and it'll be at 100% for a couple seconds and then go back down to normal. Any suggestions?

I scanned for both already. SVCHost is what was at top of the usage most recently, (and I wanna get rid of that), but WINWORD.EXE (Word) is where it's been happening the most. I'll be typing a paper and it'll just stop and then finsh my sentence...

svchost is your services host that runs no matter what. You might try tweaking what services are running and whatnot. I don't have a good link for a guide though....sorry.

Is this an AMD CPU? Try installing the Pre-SP2 memory leak fix patch - even if you already installed it once before.

My desktop was doing the same thing a few weeks ago. Even though I had previously installed the patch I re-installed it and it cleared up the problem:
