Image to PCA hope you enjoy your stay here. Only difference is speed. Provided machines on a LAN that are exchanging files both have a Gigabyte nic in them the file transfer should be much faster. Wont do anything to speed up internet communication tho as the 10/100 is already faster than any common broadband connection.

Thanks on that. I thought that would be the case but wan't sure.

How about crossover cable? I want to share my DSL connection with another PC but I was wondering if I'd need the crossover cable. I already have an A7N8X delux so it aleady has 2 onboard 10/100 LAN ports so I can share my connection with another PC.

If the DSL is PPPoE best way to share it is with a router

Most PPPoE connections won't let you use the internal Windows Internet Connection Sharing

i think if you bridge the 2 ports it might work.. but its just best to get a router and let it do it all.

that didn't work with me :(

PPPoE just sucks

Router work much better with it then just one PC hooked to the DSL modem

I don't know what PPPoE is but anyway I have dual onboard LAN Integrated 3Com® and NVIDIA® LAN controllers that lets users access broadband via one LAN port and share the Internet connection with network neighborhood via the other LAN port.

I don't want to have to buy any extra hardware besides cable and I can always keep my PC on as a gateway since I do anyway if that's neccessary.

So will I need crossover cable for this or anything else to share my connection?

IF it works then, yes a crossover cable would do it.

Who is your provider and what software do they have you running.

I know that the Windows ICS doesn't work with Earthlink or SBC

MUCH easier to use a router, and a router only costs $40.

Static

Well a router might be easier but then perhaps you'd like to give me the money to pay for it perhaps?

a crossover cable hooks two PC's with no hub or switch

and if you don't have a static, you most likely use PPPoE to connect and PPPoE doesn't like windows ICS
