I am posting this on behalf of someone else from my clan. Any info you guys have for new ideas torwards a new soundcard for gamers is much appreciated
Hey Guys!!!
Im asking you guys this question cause yall are way more techhie than I am... My brother-in-law works for Voyetra and was wanting some input from me regarding a new sound card they are wanting to create to gear towards gamers.
What are some features you would like to see in a sound card?
He already is working on ideas such as a card which has an external hub on the front of the pc with the plug ins for speakers, headset, microphone etc... with adjustable volume control for tweaking it and other things during gameplay
he asked me what else I thought it could use and I was clueless... so im putting the question out to you guys
thanks in advance for your ideas
I have never heard of this company...but when I searched breifly...it seems they are connected to Turtle beach (santa Cruz soundcards?)
sound cards could use a RF remote.
The breakout box should fit a 5 1/4 and have a box like external usb have. (instead of 2 different models)
Led VU meter would be nice.
for gaming how about a fan on the back of the card to blow on the agp card.

Mac's were made by pirates they only needed one button on the mouse to use with thier hooks.
Good drivers please! Voyetra designs the stuff for Turtle Beach I believe. Santa Cruz is still a great card, though getting a bit long in the tooth. Have been waiting for them to come out with something new for quite a while.
Would be nice if they could come up with a card that has the quality of the M-Audio Revolution 7.1, but aimed more in the direction of the gamer.
"my overclocked brain runs much faster with the thought processor disabled"
This is very interesting if it's true. There's been so many rumors in the past, I would tend adopt the "wait and see" attitude. Being a fan of the old TBSC, I'd like to see Voyetra back in the game again if possible.
The only real questions I'd have is:
1. Will the card have an on-board DSP or will it be software based like the Revo 7.1? Being a gaming card, you would think it's the later.
2. What chipset do they have in mind? I don't believe Voyetra has ever designed their own audio processor for the regular consumer market. In recent history it's usually been Cirrus Logic or the now default Aureal. A stand-alone nForce2 or VIA Envy 24HT/HT-S would be an option since they're both available right now and driver development has matured, but with the exception of the nForce2 as a stand-alone card, this is really not anything that can't be had right now if the buyer wanted it. Maybe they have something new in developement?
3. What about Sensaura support? Whether anyone likes it or not, Creative has always been a head in the gaming market due to better EAX support from the game developers. Now that Creative has bought Sensaura, I'm not sure how that's going to pan out for all the other sound card manufacturers. Unless there's an alternative, it would extremely hard to compete in the gaming market where 3D sound is a virtual must these days.
Anyway, whatever they come out with, I'd like to see them nix the gameport if this is to be a stand-alone sound card without a breakout box. I think most hardcore gamers these days use a USB controller and that space would be best reserve for DAT and COAX support. And yes, no "dongle" adaptors please. My old Acoustic Edge and Fortissimo II had them and I absolutely hated it.

I think Creative got it right when they added PCI slots instead of dongles like those two cards did. I was all to happy to through the fortissimo 2 in its box (its a bitch to go to lans with)

1) Quality DACs (192KHz/24bit)
2) High signal to noise ratio/Excellent acoustics, no distortion
3) Coaxial/Optical digital outs on the card
4) Lineout for headphones
5) Hardware DD 5.1 EX/DTS ES/ DTS 24-96/ DVD-Audio/ SACD Decoding (dream on...)
I'd gladly pay $150 or higher for the above card..
