Brandnew Monitor, weird horizontal lines...

Post by KiLLerCloWn »

Hi all,

it's been a while, hope everybody is well :)

I just connected my brandnew iiyama 22" VisionMaster and I get two very thin gray horizontal lines across the screen, maybe only 1 pixel high and across the whole width. You only really see them on white/bright background. But they are always there. I got the drivers off the net and I´ve tried it on my 4 PCs, they always show. Almost un-noticeable but they´re there.

Any idea what this could be? One is about 30% from the top, the other about 30% from the bottom. I guess I have to take the monitor back...unless someone here has a miracle solution :)

Cheers!

KC

Any Adjustments?

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

I'm sure you've tried adjusting everything.. Does it use a BNC cable? If so, you might try detaching and reattaching it.. Or replacing it, if not, make sure no pins are bent or anything.. I know these all seem obvious and sorry if I'm no help..

A little OT here.. VIVA LA ROTA!! You live anywhere near there? Or are you no longer in Sevilla? I used to live in Puerto from 95-98.. heh.. If ya still live there, I'll have to ask you more questions later.. GL in your quest for a fix.. :) eGo

Its normal for the aperture grill monitors to have those faint lines. Some people are bothered by 'em. You get used to those lines after a while. Personally, I don't even noticed the 2 faint lines on my Diamondtron monitor.

Q: I have just noticed a thin gray line on the image displayed by my Sony computer monitor. It is about one-third of the way from the bottom of the screen. Is this normal?

A: This is normal. What you are seeing is the shadow cast by the horizontal damper wire used to stabilize the aperture grille featured on all Sony Trinitron picture tubes.

Hmm, yeah, here's what Google found:

"This is normal if you're monitor uses the Trinitron/Diamondtron tube technology. These lines are actually shadows of wires behind the screen."

It don't look pretty tho... :(

Sip, todavia estoy en Sevilla :) Viva el Betis! Feel free to ask away :)

Holy cow! It's KiLLerCloWn. I think the last time I saw you on the boards was with the old AGN forum. I remember you because you were Mr. Quake/Quake2/Quake3 god. You knew all the tweaks on all the Quake games. Are you still playing any games, and if so, which ones?

Lol, you remember that? Lmao :) Yeah, I remember you and most of the oter guys in this thread...I´ve been round on these new boards, hasn´t been that long, but it has been a while.

Quake was getting out of hand actually. I made world number 1 repeatedly in intsagib and got up to number 139 worldwide in CPL rankings in regular FFA...which means I spent waaaay too much time on that game, lol :) I still play LAN with my buddies, but hardly ever online, I´m working for myself now which means I have lot less time. I guess I´m also wating for Doom 3 and Halflife 2 as everyone else.

In the meantime I concentrate on racing sims which has always been my weak spot. Geoff Grammond's Grand Pirx 4 is sublime. EA's NHL series never leaves my HD and now the brilliant Pro Evolution Soccer 3 has finally made it to the PC and I´m trying to get to grips with that.

So that´s my gaming at the moment...what about you? :)

Nice to see you're still around :)

KC

P.S.: Hmm, mabe I should fix my pic in the sig, lol :)

ACCORDING TO VIEWSONIC OR SONY

The two faint horizontal lines you see are called horizontal damper wires. These damper wires are required to maintain the aperture grille's alignment and will cast a shadow on the screen. In most applications, these lines will blend into the background, but they will be visible against lightly-colored screens. They are an integral part of the technology and are not considered a defect.

That was the reason I changed my 21'' CTR for a nice LCD ;)

Yah..

I have a 21" CRT, and I don't see it either.. But, according to the above info it's only on Triniton tubes.. I can't complain.. heh.. my 21" only cost me $100 and a trip to Dallas and it does 1600x1200 w/o a care in the world.. :D

KC,

Trabajas en la base? Vives en Sevilla no? O en Rota, Chipiona, Puerto, Torejon? Ehh.. My spanish is getting worse by the day.. heh.. You'd think after 3 years of living there and becoming near fluent it would be better. Anywho, you get the jist of my questions I think. :)

Nope, actually I'm German and I have nothing to do with the military :) I came here on a contract with the Commission of the European Union and when that ran out I stayed. I now freelance in web/graphic design, 3D modelling and animation plus all sorts of other web services. I've been here for 4 years now...and I like it a lot. So I just bought flat in the centre of Seville and I plan on sticking around for a while...life is good here :)

If you want to check out what I'm up to...although this is beta and needs updating it will give you an idea:
