Hey Guys.. I'm fixing to try and do my first RAID setup. I've got 2 80GB Maxtors and I think I know how to do it.. I've made a bootdisk so that I can install the raid drivers, or am I going about this the wrong way? The manual is kind of vague on what to do to get started here.. Thanx in advance, I'll keep you updated.. eGo

This is a lot easier than I thought.. I've got the array setup. Now I'm trying to get XPro installed on it.. This seems to be the fun part.. heh..

He He!
This sure is nice having this raid array.. Take a little while longer to boot, but I don't shut down often so it's not biggy. Now they say the drives should all be the same.. Keeping that in mind, there are two 80GB 5400RPM maxtors in there now.. So could I buy 2 more 120GB (or something like that) Maxtors and put them on the 2nd channel and make them part of the raid? Or will that not work ast he drive sizes are different? I'm just gonna throw down a lot of different scenarios here.. I have a 120GB 7200 8MB Maxtor in one comp now.. If I bought two more of them, could I run 3 drives in one stripe? Or does it not work that way? I'm basically going to be turning this rig into a file server for personal use that will also double as a game server. It's an XP1800+ at 1.7ghz w/512MB PC2100 What do you guys think? I may also consider going to even bigger drives than that.. This is all 6 months down the road, so I've got time for prices to drop and come up with different ideas.. heh.. TIA eGo

Well for one, when running a RAID array you get the best preformance running each drive on seperate channels. So what you would do is have Drive 1 of Array A (Master) and Drive 1 of Array B (Slave) on Channel 1 and have Drive 2 of Array A (Master) and Drive 2 of Array B (Slave) on Channel 2. Or any such combination as long as the drives of a single array are on seperate channels.
I'm not sure if RAID0 allows for 3 drive arrays or not. There are a few good sites about the different RAID levels.
