MCI Internet DSL Problem help please REPLY ASAP!!!

Post by demonmonkey1234 »

In the task manager winlogon.exe in all caps is preventing a friend from logging on to the internet, or this is atleast what the MCI people are telling him. He's running XP. I don't know what this is or what it has to do with anything so any information on how to rid it or disable it or get around it is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Has he tried to to disable it in the Startup tab of MSCONFIG?

not if the worm/virus stays in the memory, like a stealth boot virus I had not too long ago. Reformatting wouldnt get rid of it

could be a"copy of xp" in that file is the activation and could be missing..

Well I don't understand. MCI said that Winlogon is causing the problem, but is offering no solution as to how to fix it?

Is this PPPOE or a router? If it's PPPOE is he using XP's native PPPOE handler or did he install MCI's PPPOE client?

Have you got a router handy? If so, try setting it up using a router and no PPPOE client. If you still have a problem I would start suspecting it's not the computer.

Ok here's the closure. MCI was actually out of solutions and their 5 typical ones didn't work so they just gave him that as a problem. I don't know why or what caused them to pick that but I walked him through the Connection Wizard on XP and he rebooted and he had internet access with out MCI's 3rd party.
