Some Computer Repair People are Stupid..

Ok.. My g/f calls me a few minutes ago and tells me that they called some guys to her uncles work to fix their computers. Well, over the phone, the guy tells her uncle to "kick" the computer and that should make it work, it would "jar" it a little. I'm like WTF? Then, my g/f tells me they come over the the POB and they take the HD out and their beating it with screwdrivers and banging it on the bricks outside to "make it work". I told her these guys were idiots and trying to break stuff on purpose to make money off them. The guy says "It's not working anymore because the wheels inside aren't spinning." This was AFTER he beat it on the bricks!! They ask "Well, can we just get another HD to put in it?" "No, they don't make HDs like this anymore, and they have to be a certain type of they won't work." I'm like WTF are these guys talking about. So needless to say, I have to go over there this weekend to attempt to fix these morons screw ups. Hopefully this will result in some future business for me though.. I can't believe that crap.. eGo

I used to love at Staples when I'd get somebody in to look at some sorta part or what not and have them try to tell me all about it like I had NO clue... and when I try to correct them and tell them they were wrong they start getting mad at me like I'm an idiot...

listen pal if you're not an idiot, why are you buying computer parts at Staples!!??
go to Computer Boulevard and get it for 50 bux cheaper!!!

That is one of the funnyest things i have herd i really hate people that dont have a clue what there talking about... i allways go to radio shac to ask for some thing i know they have but they dont know what it is just so i can see the look on there faces

I can top that Ego...

A partner of mine let this guy into our AC/Heating systems 'brain room' thinking he was from the correct company...

Well, it turns out this guy is some homeless nutter who proceeded to take EVERY stock filter we had as replacements and cram all of them into the intake.....then he went on to ramming shit between the handles of a door a few steps outside the brain room saying "this is so THEY!!! can't get in!".

He started pulling valves off and asking for payment in advance cuz his boss was a schmuck (we know this guy...far from a thief or a schmuck)...

Anyway, by the time I get there...he's nearly done 'fixing' stuff...after awhile he starts asking for cash again so we all drop a few bucks in his hands thinking he's off to kick back at some pub...soon as that happened he was off like a shot...

So we head on in...see missing valves/jammed to hell door and then we open the intake panel....

Jesus H Christ in a freakin' handbag the guy had smashed them ALL in...so we waited for the 'boss' and nearly pissed ourselves after he left with this dumbstruck look on his face..

But damn...yours is pretty good... PC repair guys...hahaha..dude you should have RUSHED down with a camcorder and grabbed that crap on tape... almost like the opening of 2001...except it's the 'retarded techie without a clue' version...

there is a *very* small grain of truth to this... It's fairly common for hard drives which are in continuous use (like 24/7) to fail if they're power cycled. I've heard it referred to as "server drive syndrome." Usually a light tap or jiggle while it's off will get things moving again. Our Octanes at work are like this; each has two fairly new U160 SCSI drives, and these systems typically run 24/7. Occasionally they'll be powered down for cleaning or whatnot (Octanes are dust magnets) and about 70% of the time at least one hard drive will not spin up.

though I highly doubt the schmucks that eGoCeNTRoNiX posted about were thinking of this

I had a HD that was like that... hadt do spin it a bit to get it to start up.
