vsync doesn't make any difference in this game FP, besides I despise tearing. Only things that really helped were lowering the rez and using the 1.4 shaders

voodoo, if you burn it to a CD it works :)
I did it on a whim and it actually worked, it still needs a CD in the drive to play it

VOODOO: Doesn't matter if you've already installed it. Burn it,. You need the CD in the drive to run the game.

PRED: I disagree Pred - I turned off Vsync and it makes a BIG difference. I can live with the tearing. Frankly I've NEVER found a DirectX game that runs worth a crap with VSync enabled.

I always leave OpenGL VSync enabled, but in DX it's a crap shoot.

The Beta seems to be fully playable, but you will not be able to use a saved game from, the beta on the retail version (I wouldn't try it anyway). There are some major differences between the two - they changed some of the story line and the timing of some events.

However, once you're on the ground, the Beta looks and feels pretty much as the retail does (there's lots of missing textures in the begining when you're still on your ship) so it's a good guide to how the retail game will play.
