Heatsink and Fan Stuff

Descriptive title huh?

Anyways, thought about going water cooling but wasn't worth it to me so now it's 2 weeks away from the beginning of college and I need a new heatsink and fan. It's just too damn loud with my current one plus I despise the heatsink. So here's what I'm thinking.

My only concerns are if the 32.5 CFM that the fan puts out is enough. I have 5 of the same basic fan that all spin the same RPM and push the same air. 2 exhaust near the cpu, 1 side panel intake, and 2 front intake (one in front of HDs).

If you are set on having a heatsink that bolts to the mobo, may I suggest the SLK900u or the SLK800U instead. I believe both are better.

The antec/coolermaster led lighted fans puts out more cfm than those generic ones. Otherwise I'd get a 92mm fan like a ys tech one. ys tech has versions that come with a small fan controller. But even on high, they are not too loud.

The SLK900U will not fit that asus, but the SLK800U will.

Wasn't set on one that bolts but had read reviews of the Swifty and it seemed good. Just read that they now have ones that have 92mm fan capability.

I'll look into the SLK800U and see. I know one of those fits but you have to bend capacitors and i'm not too sure about bending caps.

It's the slk900 that you have to bend the capasitors, but not the SLK800.

I like the HSF that bolt to the mobo. Granted the first time you install them they are a hassle because you have to pull the mobo. After that tho they just screw and un screw to the stand offs. No more worrying about crunching a core or slipping a screw driver and injuring the mobo. I have an Alpha 8045 that I really like. Mind you if I was buying a heatsink today it would be one of the ones Blade mentioned above.

The SLK900 is out of the question, Thermalright's site says severe bending and I ain't doing that. The SLK800 does look to be a little bit better of a heatsink than that Swiftech unit. My only question is, since the Swifty can take 92mm fans, would it preform better than the 800 with an 80mm fan? I'm lookin for quiet fans with some pretty good CFM outputs.

The slk800 fits a 92mm just fine. Though you may have to bend one of the clips. And I've tested with 80 and 92 mm fans, ain't much cooling diff. But the blow off helps to cool surrounding components.

Another option is the sk7. It is cheaper and only cools 1-3 c less than a slk800. It also can fit 92mm fans.

Well I ended up with the SLK-800U and a Panaflo 92mm fan and all I can say is "WOW!"

This thing is amazing. My temps have dropped 5 degrees and my computer's noise level is WAY lower.

Installation was pretty simple and it was hard to believe that I got a 92mm fan to fit but hey it fit and is secure.

Good pics. Glad ya got better temps.

Weird though, I didn't realize a bolt-on heatsink must go on sideways. No wonder the capasitors are in the way on a slk900.
