new western digtal 120 gig SE & window xp

Post by renovation »

i took it to the pca lan and found it had problems -
here is what i was informed by western digital yesterday and its working now !

1ST- i had to run a low level format on it ! -zero the whole drive !
2ND - was told not to use anything but the formating software that came with this except to low level format it ! and the rest of the software on the factory supply disk has know bugs with windows xp and dont use them ! per a tech support call!
3RD - use windows xp to formate the drive !
4 th - i couldnt use there tranfer software becouse it wouldnt work to image a drive in windows xp !
so if i had norton ghost or any other 3 rd party imaging software id be fine !!!
be nice if they would add a insert in there paperwork to warn ya of these problems with with there hard drive :(
i was ready to return it to best buy but i got a fool on the phone and i had it longer then 14 days !
and to rma it would of taken i bet a month .
so i desided to call there tech center ! :bonk
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

I've never used the software included with drives to partition or format. It's always been FDISK or Win2k/WinXP setup for me.

Had to be BIOS related. I've installed a WD 160Gb drive (also an SE edition) on an XP system with no problem.

Other than the POS drive failed after 1 month :mad

By the way, both I and Huntress screwed around with this dive at the Lan, FDISk(the only thing i use) didnt want anything to do with it as well, when you would go to view the partition info, fdisk would lock up.
