Windows popups wtf?!

Post by knightofnee1112 »

I'm not sure exactly what's going on but this past week or so I've been getting popups on my desktop. I use windows 2K and I've never had such a problem before... what can I do to prevent this? thanks

You probably have spyware on your system, thanks to crap like gator.

get ad aware 6 here:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Update it, then run it.

That is another free tool that helps to prevent spyware from being installed. Though I still have to run checks with adaware weekly.

You might also try running a pop up stopper. I use FreeSurfer and have had pretty good luck with it. You can get it HERE

I use both those apps Blade mentioned and love them both.

Blade are you checking for updates for SywareBlaster regularly? Seems every time AddAware finds stuff on my system I check for updates to SywareBlaster and there are some that take care of what AddAware found. LOL either that or you are just going to too many porn sites :D

Might wanna see if you have the Messanger service enabled.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Messanger

If it's enabled (set to Automatic) and running change the status to disabled (not Manual) and stop it.
