It's always something simple ( me so stupid? )

Finally got my Barton 200+FSB stable. Turns out that the chipset, ram don't like ANY voltage above default when running @ 200 FSB. The OCer in me always felt that a little extra never hurts, but in this case it did. Be that as it may, if you have an Nforce2, leave all the extraneous voltages (chipset, agp, ram) at default when first testing @ 190-205 FSB speeds.

First time around w/ Barton I had always had the TwinMOS @ 2.7v and chipset at 1.7v. When I had the 1700+ in here, I had just left everything @ default (2.6v, 1.6v )without realizing it.

The CPU will however take a little extra voltage w/out any ill effects. Took me another cpu and fan/hs to figure it out. doh

Thanks to Blade for MAKING me get the CAK II 38 / Senfu fan off of here.

I thought it was my fan/ HS combo that wasn't getting it done when indeed it was a voltage issue.

See what happens when you take a year off from upgrading? Ya get stupid ! ;)

I had the same problem last night. I tried to up the voltage on my A7N8X deluxe last night to see about getting my fsb to 210 and it did more harm than good. Locked it up and reset F@H on me.

I'm no scientist but I think I remember reading something about how the nforce2 chipset 12v line supplies power to both the cpu and the memory controller and if you're upping one you're drawing power from the other. Basically robbing Peter to pay Paul, if you will. So maybe cranking them both up is what was creating the instability problems that I was experiencing. I'm willing to bet that it was.

Right now I"m @ 11*203.6 FSB / 2240 MHz. My memory will run @ cas2 and I can run prime95 stable. Again that's with all system voltages @ default except for the CPU which is at 1.7v, up .05v from default. Pretty fast and thank goodness, pretty quiet now that I got rid of that CAK II 38 and Senfu 60mm 7K fan / weedwhacker !!

Vid Edit....

.........that was this morning. I took a shot early this afternoon and bumped the multi to 11.5 and set the CPU voltage to 1.79v and VOILA!! 8 hours of prime later I'm locked in at 2.33 GHZ / 203 FSB. And that my friends is where it's staying. Two weeks of off and on tweaking, headbanging, benchmarks and a 500 MHz OC is enough for me. It's play time now! :D
